The apostille is only part of the costs

In addition to official fees, notary, new documents, certified copies, translation, shipping, courier, federal chancellery or embassy costs may apply.

Swiss fees differ

Cantonal fees are not the same everywhere. Zurich currently charges CHF 30 per official original signature for additional authentication. Other cantons and locations may differ.

Plan duration realistically

Simple cases can be resolved quickly. Postal service, lack of prior certification, clarifications, rare languages, embassy appointments or international delivery extend the process.

Express doesn't help everywhere

Express can help with translation or document logistics. However, authorities and consulates have their own deadlines. If you plan very tightly, you should first identify the slowest point.

What determines the total price

A realistic total price consists of several components: new certificate or certified copy, notarial certification, apostille or legalization, translation, additional copies and shipping. Especially in international proceedings, the cheapest individual item is rarely the decisive number.

Per document, per signature or per page

Authorities often calculate per official original signature or per additional authentication. Translations, on the other hand, are often calculated based on page, number of words, language combination and urgency. As a result, two jobs that look the same can cost very different prices.

Time buffer for queries

The most common delays do not occur during stamping, but rather due to a lack of prior certification, incorrect responsibility, unclear objectives or a subsequent translation of the apostille. A small buffer prevents expensive restarts.

Practical exam

  • Which country and which specific destination?
  • Original, certified copy or private declaration?
  • Apostille, legalization or just a certified translation?
  • Does the apostille have to be translated itself?
  • How current does the basic document have to be?
